MEMORIES OF BAGUIO

Tuesday, October 25th, 2005

It’s been raining so hard since last night and the weather is so cold especially now that we’re in the "ber" months. The cold weather has been bringing forth flashbacks of my memories of our stay in Baguio City… here they are in random order:

* having picnics at Camp John Hay
* my good neighbors in Purok 4 and 5 Kias, Baguio City
* eating patani for the first time ( didn’t like its strong smell though)
* Hubert and I would go to Mines View Park just to eat grilled pusit ( kung   mingawon mi sa Cebu we just go there to buy pusit )

* and if we miss Cebu’s green mangoes with matching hipon, we just go to Burnham Park
* Panagbenga…the Flower Festival
* going to Wagwagan ( ukay2x )…met Dolly Ann Carvajal and IC Mendoza there one time :)
* window shopping along Session Road

* swimming at Asin Hotspring particularly in Riverview Park
* 12 noon masses at Baguio Cathedral with Hubert
* the smell of fresh flowers along Abanao Street…hmmm
* again discovering more wagwagans at the Hilltop..hehehe…got it from Gretel ;)
* eating broccoli, lettuce, and other fresh veggies

* going to the Strawberry farm and eating fresh strawberries
* eating binatog ( steamed corn with milk and sugar to add flavor ) at Burnham
* going to PMA ( Phil Military Academy ) often
* seeing a PMA parachutist fall down from the skies after his parachute failed to open… he fell in the woods at the back of our house ( note: we live at the back of PMA )

* going to Bell Tower in La trinidad
* shopping at Abanao Square
* buying my groceries at Tiong San, 5 cents Up, and Sunshine Mall
* having to sell our new appliances and furnitures at almost 50% off just to dispose them before we leave
for Cebu since bringing them with us would cost us much with the freight cost

* my frequent trips to Porta Vaga, the newest mall there the time we were there, prior to the opening of SM Baguio
* hearing mass at Pink Sisters Convent
* our trusted yaya, Irene, who taught me some Ilocano words so that the vendors wont give me an overpriced deal, in fact, it helped so much when it comes to haggling at the market or at the wagwagan, hehehe
* celebrating Frances’ first birthday and Jeremy’s 2nd birthday in Baguio

* Texas Instruments’ Christmas Party for the employees’ families… it was such a blast, the children enjoyed it so much, even the adults, if only it were the same here in Cebu, hmmm?
* my much feared Loakan Road, with all the hearsays told to me, traveling at night is not a good idea, especially that Baguio roads are not well lit at night, plus the fog, better stay at home
* experiencing the lowest temperature to be recorded that year which was 8 degrees C, we just snuggled in bed until 12 noon when it wasn’t so cold anymore

* wearing my sweaters and my Winnie the Pooh socks
* going to Maharlika for fashion accessories
* malling at Baguio Center Mall
* going to Ifugao Wood Carving Village
* passing through Asin’s 3 days and 2 nights tunnel on the way to the hot spring
* Baguio’s cold weather

* the smell of fresh pinipig, delicious!!
* Master Hopia, nakaka-miss
* sundot-kulangot delicacy, strawberry jam, chichacorn, ube jam from Good Shepherd
* funny but true, I only got to see the famous Lion at Kennon Road and had my picture taken there just a day before leaving Baguio for good :D

* going to Cooyesan Mall at Irisan
* Trancoville at night, the whole place looks like a big Christmas tree all-year long, bec. it is a mountain full of houses, and it really glows when evening comes and all households turn their lights on
* Baguio’s never-ending rainy season from May to September, Hubert even thought of buying those plastic boots like the ones we see in the market, hehehe, grabe jud ang lapok!!!
* picnic near the Mansion

*the SARS scare!!!
* boating at the lagoon in Burnham Park
* Chocolate de Baterol and the Cemetery of Negativity inside Camp John Hay( at first we thought it was an animal cemetry, but it was pala a cemetery where we could bury all the negative thoughts and attitudes that we have and leave them there for good and come out with a more positive outlook in life, nice!!!) and you’ll get lots of laughs reading all the " lapidas" there
* Bonuan boneless bangus, hmmm, when i miss them i just go to Makro and buy some, it’s just that they dont come cheap unlike the ones from Baguio
* strawberry picking and eating strawberry ice cream at the Strawberry Farm
* the big sunflowers growing just along the road
* more and a whole lot more…..

Just like the old times…

During Frances Clare’s birthday celebration, the fairy godmothers were present except for Bambi, Maimai and Ika… Klingkling came all the way from Ormoc City, tagging along Lord Kian and Lady Kaina. It was such a wonderful time to bond once again inspite the heavy downpour. It was a first time for us, since we we have new members this time namely Jeremy, Frances, Kian, Baby Kaina, and Zen… JIGKATE Jr., hehehe
